A tooth extraction is a dental procedure where a tooth is completely removed from its socket in the jawbone. While preserving your natural teeth is always our priority at Shine Bright Dental, sometimes extractions become necessary to protect your overall oral health. Dr. Julie Gaikwad and our specialist team use gentle techniques and modern equipment to ensure this procedure is as comfortable and stress-free as possible for our Hadapsar patients.

Our dental experts may recommend tooth extraction in these situations:
Severe Decay or Damage: When a tooth is damaged beyond repair with fillings, crowns, or root canal therapy
Advanced Gum Disease: If periodontal disease has caused loosening of teeth
Impacted Wisdom Teeth: When third molars are trapped beneath the gum line or growing at problematic angles
Overcrowding Issues: To create space for orthodontic treatment or when teeth are too large for your jaw
Infection Risk: For patients with compromised immune systems who face risk from even minor tooth infections
Baby Teeth Problems: When primary teeth don’t fall out naturally and block permanent teeth from emerging
First, Dr. Julie will perform a thorough examination including X-rays to assess the position and condition of the tooth, planning the safest extraction approach.
We use effective local anesthesia to ensure you feel no pain during the procedure. For anxious patients, we offer additional sedation options to help you relax.
We offer both simple and surgical tooth extractions. Simple extractions are for visible teeth and use specialized instruments to loosen and remove them. Surgical extractions are required for impacted or broken teeth, and may involve a small incision in the gum.
We'll place gauze over the extraction site to control bleeding and might place stitches if needed. You'll receive detailed aftercare instructions before leaving our Amanora Park Town clinic.
Before your tooth extraction at Shine Bright Dental:
– Inform Dr. Julie about all medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter drugs
– Discuss any health conditions like heart issues, diabetes, hypertension, or artificial joints
– Avoid eating for 6-8 hours before surgery if receiving sedation
– Arrange for someone to drive you home if sedation will be used
– Wear comfortable clothing and avoid excessive jewellery on the day of treatment
After your tooth extraction:
– Bite gently on the gauze pad for 30-45 minutes to help form a blood clot
– Take prescribed pain medications exactly as directed
– Apply ice packs to the outside of your face in 15-minute intervals to reduce swelling
– Eat soft foods like yogurt, khichdi, and smoothies for the first 48 hours
– Don’t use straws, smoke, or spit forcefully for at least 72 hours
– Gently rinse with warm salt water starting 24 hours after the procedure
– Return to Shine Bright Dental for follow-up care as scheduled
